NEWS RELEASE FROM COCKRELL HALL

The 2012 session of the College of Commissioner Science will convene Saturday, December 1st, at Cockrell Hall for a full day of Commissioner continuing education and fellowship, with registration and breakfast opening at 7:30 A.M. and the opening session starting promptly at 8:00 A.M.  You may access the course offerings and registration information through the links above.

Inspired by 100th anniversary of the completion of the first Eagle Scout rank, the theme of this year's session is "Commissioners are the Wind Beneath Their Wings." Commissioners lift up the entire BSA family of programs through their service to units and leaders. Units are invigorated through direct service. Leaders are provided a better understanding of how the use BSA programs and tools. Our ultimate reward is seeing youth members receive a better program enabling to be better leaders for tomorrow.

We invite you to:
• Improve your Commissioner skills by learning with, and from, your fellow Commissioners;
• Hear an engaging keynote talk by Eagle Scout and Federal Senior Judge David Hittner;
• Work toward completing Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Commissioner Science degrees by meeting national requirements and requesting recognition (see #2d above!);
• Witness the presentation of Distinguished Commissioner Service Awards to long-serving Commissioners who have met requirements of that program;
• Enjoy the fellowship of a midday meal with fellow Commissioners.

You can save 20% by registering on or before Sunday, November 18.  So, register today! Use the online registration link above ($1.50 convenience fee applies) or print and complete the registration form linked above and mail or deliver it to the council office.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to hone your Commissioner skills so that you can be The Wind Beneath Their Wings!  We look forward to seeing you on December 1st!

A SPECIAL NOTE FOR THOSE WORKING TOWARD COMMISSIONER DEGREES

Not everyone who attends College of Commissioner Science courses wants to work toward the Bachelor, Master, and Doctor degrees.  For this reason, degrees are not automatically awards when the requirements are met.  Therefore, those wanting to earn degrees must notify us when they believe they have completed the requirements so that the degree registrar can review their progress and approve the awarding of a degree.  This process is called petitioning for a degree and is described in link #2d above.  Degree requirements can be found in link #2c above.

Please follow the steps outlined above as soon as you believe that you have completed requirements to allow time for reviewing your information and obtaining any additional information needed to approve your petition.
