2012 General Scout Fair Chairman

"Disover Your World" at Sam Houston Area Council's 2012 Scout Fair on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Reliant Arena was another record breaking year for our council. Scout Fair is our annual event where Scouts from all over the Council united in one place displaying Scouting fun for all ages! Units - took advantage of the chance to showcase their Scouting skills by participating in a unit booth. The planning and teamwork involved as a unit booth participant provided great fun and learning opportunities.

Scout Fair captured many goings-on such as:

Mega Derby (the largest derby in the country)

Merit Badge Midway (Over 80 different Merit Badges represented)

Outdoor Cooking Area

Scout Fair 2012 had over 550 units participating and generated $1.4 Million dollars contributing to our local Scouting Program through out over 16 surrounding counties.

Scout Fair offers something for everyone...Scouts, siblings, adult leaders, families, friends & our community. Thank you for your involvement and commitment to Scouting and I look forward to seeing you all again next year at Scout Fair 2013 on Saturday, April 13th.

Important Dates

April 30th: Deadline to turn in Cliffhanger Winner forms to earn Bonus

April 14th: Deadline to receive full commissions on all sales
 
April 15th - April 30th: Commissions drop to 10% on monies turned in during this period
 
May 1st - May 31st: Commissions drop to 5% on monies turned in during this period
 
After June 1st: Outstanding Coupon Pack values reduced from commissions to close unit account

Overview

Units MUST close account to receive commissions! All units receive 30% base commission for each $10 Scout Fair Coupon Pack sold and funds turned in on or before April 14, 2012. Participation at Scout Fair as either a Service Unit or Booth Participant earned unit an additional 10% commission. Units also took advantage of Early Bird Turn-In Dates allocating 5%, 3% and1% additional Bonus Commissions.

Booth Registration

    

Registration for booths was available online and were accepted through April 1, 2012. Units who registered after this date were designated as service units in order to assist in running the event as well as take advantage of the opportunity to earn an additional 10% commission.

Scout Fair Participation Patch

Super Salesman Patch

Scouts that attended Scout Fair, participated at Scout Fair or sold Scout Fair Coupon Packs, received a participation patch. New this year... the participation patch and the Super Salesman Patch were interlocking patches…when combined, formed a compass. The outer compass was available at their district booth on Scout Fair day. Scouts that sold 15 Coupon Packs qualified for the Super Salesman Patch which is the inner portion of the compass. (One Super Salesman Patch per Scout. No combining of sales between Scouts). If your unit or your Scout did not receive either of these patches earned, they can be obtained during normal business hours at the Cockrell Service Center.

REI Weekly Drawing

For every 15 Coupon Packs sold, Scouts qualified to enter the WEEKLY DRAWING. Weekly drawings were held every Friday, February 10th – April 13th, 2012. Drawing winners were presented their prizes on the Scout Fair Main stage on April 14th.

  • Kayak Rental (Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL) for TWO
  • Weekend rental with Friday pickup and Monday rental return
  • Rental includes paddles, PFDs and car-top kit.  

   Midway REI Nature Hike

7 unidentified booths offered Scouts one stamp for visiting their booth. Hiking maps were available at District Booths & at the Midway entry area. Each stamp received, Scouts could redeem them for prizes at the “Winner’s Circle’s” Trading Post. Find all 7 booths & you were entered into the REI Drawing to WIN the REI Passage 2 person tent valued at over $150.

Booth Judging Awards

Scout Fair Booths were judged on the following criteria:
Signage, Evidence of Youth Involvement, Adherence to Health/Safety Guidelines and Theme.

Award Ribbons were given for each of the following:
  • Inside Booths by District: Best Activity (Awards given for Cub Scouts, Boy Scoutsand Venturing)
  • Outdoor Cooking Booths: TOP CHEF (Awards given for best of in four Zones)
  • Outdoor Activity Booths (Non-Food): Best Activity (First, Second & Third Place)
